Gokhan "Pitbull" Turkyilmaz

"MIND OVER MAYHEM"

Born and raised in the rough neighbourhood of Broadmeadows in Melbourne Australia till the age of 10 Gokhan always enjoyed watching fight movies as a kid admiring all the legends such as Bruce Lee, Van Damme, Jackie Chan, Jet Lee and Chuck Norris.

His initial introduction to fighting came whilst training at Jemal Hassans Taekwondo Academy where he achieved his first Black Belt by the age of 10 shortly after which he ended up moving to the Gold Coast in Queensland to be with his father who coincidentally had a kickboxing background himself. Whilst on the Gold Coast Gokhan trained under 7 x World Champion ‘John Wayne Parr’ at the world famous ‘Boonchu Gym’ ending up fighting in several Amateur Muay Thai competitions all by the time he was 13.

Gokhan then progressed to a different discipline and started training in MMA with Kerry Dunne at the ‘Shindo Gym’, competing in Amateur MMA and Grappling Comps when he around the age of 15 - 16. After feeling confident enough to have his first professional bout in the "SPARTAN 4" promotion at the age of 16 Gokhan continued to compete in a few Amateur Kickboxing & Muay Thai competitions.

Gokhan then joined the Royal Australian Navy at age 18 as an Aircraft Maintenance Engineer where he was unable to compete for about 16 months until he started training again at ‘Street Alert Muay Thai’ in Wagga Wagga with Liam Priest. His first fight back in Muay Thai was held in Sydney under the well known Paul Grima "Pitbull Promotion’s" in which he lost the fight by a debatable split point’s decision. After this loss Gokhan took another year off from fighting.

After moving to Nowra in NSW Gokhan started to train again, this time at the ‘Southern Fitness & Martial Arts Centre’ for about 3 years where upon he achieved his second Black Belt and an Instructor Accreditation. It was around this time he was offered his first title fight for the ‘NSW Super Middleweight Title’.  Gokhan ended up fighting confidently but unfortunately lost the fight on points, the loss being contributed somewhat to an inconsistent training regime due to work commitments as well as not just quite being ready mentally and physically.

2009 was a start of a new year and a new beginning for Gokhan who was then posted to Townsville with work after which he regained the desire to get back into training, specifically MMA where he ended up training at Colin Crosby's ‘KickStart’ MMA Gym.

After a 17-month break from training Gokhan knew that he could restart everything again from the basics with the use of different fundamentals to enhance his MMA training and take it to an elite level. In September 2009 Gokhan was offered a fight in “BRACE FOR WAR 3” which was to be held in Townsville in January 2010. Over the ensuring months of hard, disciplined and dedicated training along with the assistance of Crossfit NQ’s Fiona Muxlow and Australian Sports Nutrition, Gokhan won this debut pro MMA fight against the formidably tough Jay Cobain.

After this taste of success ‘Pitbull’ has continued to excel further in the world of professional MMA, fighting in promotions such as FATE MMA, NITRO, CFC, CAGE WARS and MAIN EVENT on “BRACE FOR WAR 4” all in a matter of 10 months.

Gokhan ‘PITBULL’ Turkyilmaz now has the Professional MMA world at his feet with a drive and dedication unlike no other… Big things are in store for Pitbull in 2011 so stay tuned to the war that he will bring!!
